Greenhouse Training Online ‘Weed Management’ | UF/IFAS
Weed Management is an intermediate-level course from the University of Florida’s Greenhouse Training Online program that teaches weed management strategies for nurseries and greenhouses, from identification to herbicide and non-chemical applications, for effective control.
Weed Management is taught by Dr. Chris Marble, Associate Professor of Ornamental and Landscape Weed Management in the Environmental Horticulture Department at the University of Florida. He focuses on teaching horticulture professionals about the importance of identifying weed species before applying treatments. Growers in the course have described him as an instructor who “is very methodical and easy to learn from” who presents “weed management in an in-depth, clear manner.”
This course is part of the Plant Health Professional Certificate.
Course participants will:
- Learn how to manage all aspects of weed management
- Learn about factors that impact weed growth and herbicide performance
- Learn how to select the best herbicides for weeds at your greenhouse or nursery
- Learn how to accurately calibrate sprayers and other application equipment to avoid crop injury
- Learn how to reduce hand weeding and herbicide costs
The course runs from Oct. 14 to Nov. 8, 2024. All course material is completely online and available at any time of the day. It includes pre-recorded videos, an interactive discussion board with Ph.D. professors, and quizzes. Course material is available in English and in Spanish, and two new modules are activated each week during each course, for a total of eight learning modules.
