How to Make Piñatas
Piñatas can be kind of pricy and sometimes it is hard to find something not character-related to celebrate. Oh, and making your own piñata is not only fun, but a great way to celebrate and spend time with your kids! Paper Plate Piñatas are easy to make, and we will show you how!

To go with our Cinco De Mayo week of celebrating and learning that this holiday goes way beyond sombreros and donkeys, my kids will end their fun with a piñata. As a Mexican, I feel very strongly about making sure my kids learn the real significance of Cinco de Mayo, in the midst of the fun celebrations.

Make a Piñata From a Paper Plate
This piñata is so much fun to make! If you’re having a party, you can even create many piñatas in various sizes to hang around. Or, let the kids each make their own piñatas to break at the end of the party!
Supplies Needed To Make A Piñata
Directions To Make A Piñata
Step 1
Using your tissue paper, make some fringe. The best to do it is fold it over a few times and then cut up and down.
Step 2
Then, you’ll need to place both paper plates together and staple one end. It should resemble a tambourine, like in image 2b, above.
Step 3
Once the paper plates are stapled, decorate your piñata foundation with tissue paper of various colors.
Step 4
Let the glue dry, and then stuff it with candy.
Note: Depending on the quality of the paper plate you won’t want to stuff it too much so it can withhold a few bangs without completely falling off the string the instant it’s hit.
Step 5
Finish by stapling the opening of the piñata completely. Run some string through the top middle and then hang in an open area.
