The problem many growers run into when planning and rolling out an integrated pest management (IPM) program is the risk of pesticide resistance development, especially in the case of stubborn Thrips parvispinus. However, studies and refinement of IPM practices are creating new ways to mitigate the risk of pesticide resistance.
American Floral Endowment‘s upcoming webinar on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, as part of its ongoing Grow Pro series, will cover proactive measures and holistic approaches that growers can take to reduce the risk of resistance while effectively managing the presence of thrips in greenhouse environments. Covered topics of the webinar will include:

- Identification of different thrips species
- New developments regarding Thrips parvispinus
- Proactive measures to take before the start of the season
The featured speaker for “Integrated Control of Thrips” is Dr. Rose Buitenhuis, Director of Biological Crop Protection at the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre. Buitenhuis completed her Ph.D. in Entomology at Université Laval in Quebec after receiving her master’s degree at Leiden University in the Netherlands. Before joining Vineland, she worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the University of Guelph.
